Attendance / A Legal Requirement In NSW

13 November 2025
Back

Parents/carers are legally responsible to ensure their children aged 6–17 must attend school daily.

Accepted absences include:

  • Illness (with documentation)
  • Medical/dental appointments
  • Urgent family matters
  • Religious/cultural holidays
  • Approved travel or elite commitments
  • Mental health support (with documentation)

ℹ️ It is a legal requirement for parents/carers to explain absences within 7 days via Compass or by contacting the College. Unapproved absences may be marked Unjustified.

ℹ️ Travel during exams/assessments is usually not accepted. Plan ahead to avoid academic impact.

ℹ️ Ongoing unjustified absences may lead to support meetings or CSBB involvement.

Attendance supports learning, wellbeing & future success. Let’s work in partnership to ensure our children reach their potential!
